Paddle. Peddle & Paw for a Pal

Hi, my name is Stuart Goldberg and on February 24,1998 my life changed forever. I was diagnosed with a remitting relapsing form of multiple sclerosis . Up until that moment I was experiencing symptoms of the disease but led an active life. Was a science teacher Iandwas coaching Nordic skiing and actually trained to race. I was an avid cyclist and enjoyed many mountain sports. After 1998 I moved to New Hampshire and continued teaching and began coaching baseball as well skiing. I had several relapses but continued my activities. I actually added white water kayaking to my repetoire. Keeping my body temp down is essential when dealing with MS. As time progressed so did my MS. I did not realize my cognitive strengths were becoming weaker. In 2005 I was re-diagnosed with progressive MS. Meaning that the disease would not have a relapsing component. Since then I have been undergoing chemotherapy treatment to stop the progression and have lost much of my balance and am fatigued much of the time. I have stopped teaching and working and have been collecting SSDI. I do not have medical insurance; I am getting some support from Concord Hospital. But needles to say, expenses begin to pile up. So to help pay for medical expenses and to make living with MS a bit easier by planning for adaptive solutions which are very expensive I am organizing a fund raiser.
I am hosting a triathlon encompassing the sports I have loved doing or coaching.
On SundayMay 25th is when the event is taking place. It is a non-timed event to create a vibe that is about celebrating and supporting.
The events can be run as teams or individuals. When registering if you don’t have a team you will be matched up with others needing members or you can do the event without a team if one is not available to join.
The event:
Leg 1 is a kayaking event. There will be a section of the contoocook river that will be run. People can run the Entire Henniker section which encompasses a thrilling class III- IV section or Just the Lower class II-III section. The water should still be a bit chilly at the end of May. In any cash PFD’s and Helmets are required. For those folks wanting to do the just lower section I may be able to arrange for rubber boats and other equipment. I will need numbers of interested folks to arrange equipment to make available to rent or borrow
Leg 2 is a biking event. There will be a road course and a Mountain Biking Course. The mountain biking course will be mostly single track with some wider stuff an a bit of road to transition. It will be under around 5k and tons of fun. The road portion will be under 10k with a mixture of terrain. There is a long gradual up hill and a screaming down hill and the finish for both races will be near the whitewater takeout.
Leg 3 This leg follow much of the road section and ends on Main Street in front of the gazebo where bbq, bands, raffle and silent auction will take place

The entry fee will be $25 per person. Each racer will receive a goddie bag with assorted favors, BBQ, bands (I hope) and Raffle ticket.
